What is the school’s philosophy of teaching?
Our philosophy of teaching involves direct instruction. We believe that quality, child-focused instruction is the most effective way that children learn. However, students are also given opportunities to explore and discover information, as well as work with partners to reinforce learning. At Bethany Christian School, students are assessed in reading and math and are placed in skill-based groups. These learning groups involve students of different ages and grades in one group and the same skill level. This allows teachers to maximize instructional time while meeting the academic needs of all students.
What kind of test scores do students from BCS achieve and how does that compare statewide/nationally?
Students in 2nd through 8th grade take a nationally standardized test each year, TerraNova 3. Our students consistently score 20 – 40% above the national average. Click here to see our latest test results.
What is the method of communication used to keep me informed of what my child is learning, how they are progressing, etc.?
We use various methods to keep parents informed. Parents and teachers have frequent interaction through email, personal conversations, and/or formal parent-teacher conferences. Additionally, we use the school site management software called RenWeb. Teachers enter grades weekly, so parents are informed regularly of their child’s progress. In addition, teachers send email updates and newsletters to keep parents informed.
What is the benefit of a private, Christian education over a public education?
We provide Christian discipleship – students study a Bible curriculum every day and have weekly chapels. Additionally, they are taught from a biblical perspective throughout each subject. We also have high academic standards and provide skill-based grouping in reading and math so students can excel according to their ability. Bethany Christian School is a small community and there are more opportunities for students to participate in activities. Overall, you will be at a school with supportive, like-minded families and staff.
